Munich, March 10, 2026 – Filming has begun in and around Munich on the international cinematic co-production GOULD LOVER. The film is directed by French-German writer and director Andy Sommer (Beethoven Reloaded), who in his new work turns his attention to one of the most extraordinary musicians of the 20th century: the Canadian pianist Glenn Gould.
The biopic is produced by AMOUR FOU Luxembourg and AMALIA FILM, in co-production with Paris-based EDDY CINÉMA. Further shooting will take place in Luxembourg and Canada.
New York, 1968. Glenn Gould (Jack Farthing) is 30 years old, a virtuoso pianist and an international star. Everything is going according to plan; everything seems permitted. Yet in truth, Glenn is standing at a turning point in his life. In a recording studio near Central Park, he meets photographer Eleanor Weismann (Sophie Mousel), the pregnant wife of composer Georg Weismann (David Kross). For the first time, Glenn falls head over heels in love, and the two artists plunge into a devoted love affair. At the same time, Glenn decides to stop performing concerts altogether, initiating a radical rupture in his career. Between artistic obsession, passionate love, and family ties, a complex ménage-à-trois unfolds.
GOULD LOVER, freely inspired by true events, tells a story about the unpredictable power of love and the life of an exceptional artist whose uncompromising attitude left a lasting impact on the music of the 20th century. Set against the backdrop of the North American art scene of the 1960s, the film unfolds as an intense, atmospherically rich narrative.
The film boasts an international cast: Jack Farthing (Spencer, Islands) stars as Glenn Gould, Sophie Mousel (Reflection in a Dead Diamond) plays Eleanor Weismann, and David Kross (The Reader, The Keeper, Balloon) appears as her husband Georg Weismann. Additional roles are played by Jonathan Zaccaï (Downton Abbey: A New Era), Rony Herman, and Leslie Malton.
The film is directed by Andy Sommer, who also co-wrote the screenplay alongside Gilles Taurand, Hélène Zimmer, and Thom Richardson. Cinematography is by German-French director of photography Sarah Blum (Palestine 36). The original score is composed by Francesco Tristano, the internationally renowned pianist whose musical approach further deepens the protagonist’s inner world.
GOULD LOVER is produced by AMOUR FOU Luxembourg (Bady Minck, Alexander Dumreicher-Ivanceanu) and AMALIA FILM (Felix von Poser, Michael Lehmann), in co-production with EDDY CINÉMA (Céline Vanlint, Nicolas de Rosanbo), Gretchenfilm, Pamy Mediaproductions, Magic Media, and Chaussee SoundVision. Line producers are André Fetzer for AMOUR FOU and Dieter Horres for AMALIA, with Bénédicte Hermesse serving as head of production. The film is produced in co-production with ZDF, in cooperation with ARTE (Commissioning Editors ZDF/ARTE: Simon Ofenloch; ARTE: Barbara Häbe).
The project is supported by Film Fund Luxembourg, the German Federal Film Fund (DFFF), FFF Bayern, nordmedia – Film and Media Company Lower Saxony/Bremen, and France’s CNC.
Distribution for cinemas in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland will be handled by Alpenrepublik Filmverleih.
